Communities of Practice (CoP) are groups of professionals with a common interest in sharing information and skills on a regular basis in a defined area of professional practice. Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) is an independent Australian project delivery organisation that employs professional engineers across the globe and advances its knowledge management though the establishment of CoPs. SKM’s Heritage CoP provides a mechanism for professionals within the business to share knowledge about heritage matters. The value expected of SKM’s Heritage CoP is that members put into practice things they have learnt and this includes the conserving our engineering heritage.
