FAQs
So what is engenerate?
engenerate is a brand new initiative of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ), aiming to celebrate and assist its young engineers.
OK, how does it work?
Well, engenerate has three goals. In recognising that young engineers need some sort of grouping and specific assistance, engenerate aims to simplify the path to competence-based membership and/or registration, provide a facility for starting and/or continuing with structured professional development and create opportunities for networking.
Participants can get together in their local regions for engenerate events and activities. These can range from a casual beer-and-pizza evening to training in contract law!
The engenerate website also contains information to support young engineers with competence assessments and career development.
Basically it’s here to help young engineers reach their potential and have a fun time doing it!
Sounds great! Am I young enough for engenerate?
If you’re under 30 or have had less than eight years work experience, then yes!
Hmmm… do I have to be an IPENZ Member?
Yes. And no. But mostly yes. If you’re not an IPENZ Member but interested in engenerate, you can still attend events to get a taste of the engeneration. If you decide that it’s for you, then you can join IPENZ and take advantage of what engenerate has to offer.
(Don’t forget that in many instances your employer will pay your IPENZ Membership fees).
I’m overseas, but I want in!
If you’re overseas then you’re welcome to take advantage of this webpage, but the engenerate events will all be held in New Zealand.
Fine by me! How do I get involved?
Look out for upcoming events on this webpage, the Engineering Calendar and engineering direct .
Oh, and feel free to contact your regional engenerate leader, especially if you want to get involved with organising events or have some ideas!
Right on, so is there a cost?
If you’re a fully-financial IPENZ Member there is no fee to be a part of engenerate. However, attendance at some events may incur a cost. If you are not a Member of IPENZ then the cost associated with an event will be higher to non-members than to Members.
Awesome! But what’s with the name?
engenerate comes from Ingenerate (adj.) meaning:
- not generated or produced, but originating and existing in itself
- to produce or create within
- to engender
Swell. And are there going to be any fun activities or promotions?
You bet! If you’re an engineer from Generation Y then you’re probably a little indifferent to the norm, so keep an eye on your inbox and this webpage…
Help! I’m not receiving any engenerate email communication!?This means that either you’re not an IPENZ Member, or you need to update your contact details! Log into the IPENZ Members' Area now!
