Two prizes are presented annually, for the best practical and the best theoretical paper. The awards are in the form of sums of money. The Arthur Mead Environmental Award, given to an Auckland branch member whose submission for a predominantly engineering work best exemplifies care for, and consideration of, environmental values. The award is in the form of a metal plaque. Technician of the Year Award, given to an outstanding student in the final year of the NZCE course at each of the following institutions - Auckland Technical Institute, UNITEC and Manukau Polytechnic. Canterbury Branch The Templin Scroll Competition. J R Templin, a prominent consultant electrical engineer, was the first Chairman of the Canterbury Branch of the New Zealand Institution of Engineers. Throughout his career he took a keen interest in the Engineering Society. In 1941 he donated the Templin Scroll Award to the society and followed this with a further donation of the Templin Prize in 1945. His awards were made with the intention of encouraging engineers in the art of presenting their subject to others. The competition is open to any student taking a regular course of study at the Engineering School who is a financial member of the Engineering Society. The Templin Scroll is awarded for the best written and presented paper. The award consists of the Scroll, to be engraved with the name of the winner, and a sum of money. The Templin Prize is awarded for the best written technical paper. The award consists of a sum of money. The Senior and Junior Prizes for the Applied Sciences Division, Canterbury Westland Science Fair. Both awards consist of a sum of money. Maintenance Engineering Society of New Zealand Applications are sought from candidates interested in maintenance engineering as a career. Students from anywhere in New Zealand are encouraged to apply the MESNZ scholarship. Students with links to MESNZ through work or other avenues are urged to apply. Presented for the exhibit with the greatest engineering aspect. The award is in the form of a sum of money. New Zealand Geotechnical Society The New Zealand Geomechanics Society Award is offered annually for the best paper published during the three years ending 31 July preceding the date of the award. All society members who are authors of any paper published within the previous three years are eligible, provided that at least one author is a member and the paper is nominated in writing by a member during the current year. The criteria for selection of the award paper are merit and the degree to which the paper advances the object of the society. The award is in the form of a sum of money for the purchase of books, plus a certificate. New Zealand National Society for Earthquake Engineering The Otto Glogau Award is offered annually to the author presenting the best paper during the three years ending 30 June preceding the date of the award. Those eligible are authors, whether members or non-members, of any paper published in the Society's quarterly magazine, the Bulletin within the previous three years; also, authors of any paper published elsewhere provided at least one is a member and the paper is nominated in writing by a member during the current year. The criteria for selection of the award paper are merit and the degree to which the paper advances the objects of the society. The award is in the form of a sum of money to purchase books, plus a certificate. The Earthquake Engineering Research Scholarship is awarded annually, and is in the form of a grant to assist a person to undertake research in any field related to earthquake engineering at any New Zealand university. A condition of the scholarship grant is that, at the end of the term, the recipient shall produce a publication, relating to the research undertaken, suitable for publishing in the Bulletin. Northland Branch The Professional Engineers Bursary, is operating to provide finance to assist young Northlanders into engineering courses. Otago Branch The Polytech Prize, presented to the top engineering student. The award is in the form of a sum of money. The Science Fair Prize, presented to the best engineering-related entry. The award is in the form of a sum of money. Taranaki Branch Taranaki Engineering Scholarship. Up to two awards are given each year to Taranaki students who have attended school or polytechnic for at least two years and are in their second year of university study for a Bachelor of Engineering degree at Auckland or Canterbury University. Total maximum value per year is $1000. Graduates Paper. An award is presented to the graduate who presents the best paper at the President's visit to the branch. The award is in the form of a substantial gift. The Technical Group on Water The Brian Brown Memorial Award, instituted in 1980 as an award of the Technical Group on Water, is presented to the author of the best paper on a water subject presented at the annual IPENZ Conference. The amalgamation in 1992 of TGW with the New Zealand Water Supply and Disposal Association gave rise to the NZ Water and Wastes Association. This award which is made by the NZWWA, takes the form of a wall plaque and a sum of money. It recognises the work of Brian Brown, and roots of the current association.
