Increasing numbers of companies are reducing their costs and improving their business customer service by utilising Telecom's new AirData service. AirData is Telecom's wireless IP service operating over cellular digital packet data (CDPD). It provides clients with continuous connection which is available for transmitting short bursts of data without the need for physical connections. The expertise in CDPD, circuit switched cellular, trunked mobile radio, and application integration is currently being employed by companies for sales force management, service despatch systems, freight despatch and control. Allied Telesyn has a new 32-bit CardBus LAN adapter. The AT-2800TX is an Ethernet LAN adapter card for laptops, compatible with 10BaseT and 100BaseTX networks, which auto-senses and operates with either network. This LAN PC card for laptops meets the new 32-bit high performance PC card standard known as CardBus which provides a 100 Mb network interface and eliminates the interface bottleneck that older 16-bit PC cards experience. CLEAR has upgraded its ATM backbone from 34 to 155 Mbit to meet soaring demand for frame relay and ATM network services. The $600,000 upgrade included the installation of a new BPX switch in Hamilton and new port cards in existing switches in CLEAR's Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch nodes. CLEAR currently has 900 frame relays and expects to double that number in the next 12 months. ATM is now being implemented for a number of major corporates and government departments.
